Teran Livio Benvenuti 2021
Our goal with Teran Livio is to tell the story of Motovun terroir. For a wine to express terroir, the grapes must be perfectly healthy. That’s why Livio wines are not produced every year, much like the former Anno Domini line from which they draw inspiration. This approach deeply shapes how Teran Livio is made: the vintage is chosen, the vineyards are selected, grapes are carefully picked, and the harvest date is determined only when all factors are at their optimal levels. Every step undergoes strict control. The aim is to create a wine meant to be remembered and aged. Before it reaches the public, it rests partly in oak barrels and partly in bottles. To achieve its purpose, the wine must display strong varietal and terroir notes, lasting structure, and a full body — qualities that allow it to age gracefully and deeply over time.

While nature sometimes takes, it also gives. In a year when the world paused—or at least slowed down—nature rewarded us with a rarely good harvest and grapes of remarkable quality. There was no hesitation: a Livio had to be made in 2020. The 2021 vintage was unique in that vegetation began on time despite a mild winter. The vines were well-rested, and June brought generous rainfall after a dry winter, almost as a gift for their patience. In a year full of uncertainty, nature offered us this exceptional fruit. To honor it properly, we implemented one of the strictest grape selections to create a wine for the ages, extracting the best from our fruit. Today, we know with certainty: it was the best possible decision.
Description:
The color has resisted the passage of time, remaining a deep, honest ruby, a true wine hue — a testament to the health of the grapes and the precision of vinification. The aroma is intense and seductive, combining the pure, fresh scent of cherries with the depth of roasted dark berries, interwoven with sweet spice and even recalling a cherry chocolate cake. The wine’s freshness and roundness are layered in perfect balance. On the palate, it is vibrant and still carries a refreshing lift — making it a modern, elegant red wine, despite being built for long aging. Thanks to its vivid acidity, Teran Livio can be enjoyed even without food by red wine lovers. Yet its firm tannins clearly indicate its culinary potential. This wine is made to pair with refined, rich, and complex cuisine.
Gastronomic recommendation:
At the top of the list are traditional Istrian dishes made with Boškarin (local Istrian ox), particularly slow-cooked sous-vide Boškarin cheeks, which form a perfect match. It also pairs beautifully with aged steaks and premium cheeses.
