Teran Anno Domini 2018

Teran Anno Domini is produced only in good years, and hence the name. Grapes from our best vineyards are selected to produce this wine. After the ideal ripeness is reached and the vinification is complete, the wine is stored to age a few years, partly in wooden barrels and partly in the bottle. When it comes on the market, Teran Anno Domini is usually a well-rounded and full-bodied wine, with a lively acidic backbone, a valued collector's item with a long aging potential.

Year: 2018

The vintage of 2017 was specific and required a lot of attention and activities in the vineyards throughout the whole vegetative cycle. However, for Teran at higher altitudes on slopes and on poorer, well-drained soil, the conditions were favourable. The growth cycle started a bit later, the vines were lush and ripened late. Plenty of rain in the early stage in February and March, followed by a dry and warm April, resulted in fast and intense growth, while rainy May and June and typically warm July and August ensured high yield. Luckily, the dry and warm harvesting period, which means the entire September and the first half of October, provided a healthy harvest. Green harvesting and the reduction of yields proved essential to achieve the balance and high quality in the end. The harvest took place in the first half of October.

Description:

Deep and intense ruby colour with shades of purple. Complex on the nose, with the aromas of dried sour cherries and prunes, with juicy forest fruits and fresh sour cherries. In the background there are hints of spiciness from the oak. The taste is just as complex – this wine has depth, firm tannins, high concentration, medium acidity, pleasantly spicy finish and a lot of ripe fruitiness on the palate. The finish is marked by a firm tannic structure, a pleasant lingering spiciness, ripe Teran grapes and notes of leather in the aftertaste. This is a mature type of Teran, full-bodied, with a subtle dose of warmness and a complex character, meant to be paired with ambitious dishes and haute cuisine.

Gastronomic recommendation:

Dry aged beefsteaks and other aged steaks sprinkled with coarse salt and olive oil, or meat in rich sauces, like osso buco and similar dishes.
