Malvazija istarska 2021
Malvazija is our basic wine, to which we devote most of our attention, always trying to achieve a balance between the freshness, or its refreshing character, and the structure and stability. Therefore, our Malvazija has the fruitiness and minerality typical for fresh Malvasijas, and at the same time it also has complexity, depth and aging potential. It usually reaches its peak a year after the harvest and maintains it for three to five more years.

The vegetative cycle started a little bit earlier than usual. Budding took place in early April, followed by an unusually cold front which slowed down the start of growth, but caused no damage. Yet, the flowering took place around ten day later than it normally would, in late May. The beginning of ripening (veraison) was in mid-August. In terms of climate, 2021 was a balanced year. Apart from the incident with coldness early on, the rest of the vegetative cycle was standard. The rest of spring and the first half of summer had regular periods of rainfall and longer sunshine days. The end of the cycle was dry and sunny, all from veraison to the end of harvest. This vintage had a very dry and hot harvesting period, which meant we could wait for the perfect ripeness and moderate yield. The harvest started on 11 September, and the last grapes were picked on 19 September.
Description:
Clear greenish-yellow color, pronounced aroma and taste with a lot of freshness and intensity. The aroma is characterized by fresh fruitiness, with an emphasis on vineyard peach and lime with yellow and green stone fruit in the background. The taste is characterized by pleasant minerality, medium body, depth and long duration. Its first impression is freshness, then a varietal sweetness appears in the middle, and the fruitiness of citrus fruit mixed with mineral saltiness and a pleasantly bitter note follows on the finish.
Gastronomic recommendation:
